To make maximum use of the purchasing power in the business we need an extensive purchasing toolbox and expert hands on the tools

With a Mechanical Engineering foundation followed by several years at the sharp end of international Sales & Marketing Gerald is the complete Procurement Professional; an engineers understanding of how things work and the impact of Best Practice Procurement on the business and the customer.

Gerald trained and qualified here in the UK as a Mechanical Engineer, the career progressing to the position of Chief Mechanical Engineer at a large processing operation in Africa. While being responsible for more than 100 employees and considerable static and mobile plant Gerald’s procurement experience started to evolve at this point with the purchase of plant and equipment on overseas aid from the UK, USA and the World Bank.

Back in the UK Gerald used his engineering and overseas experience to develop a career in international Sales & Marketing; with Mining Supplies Ltd in Doncaster as Senior Project Engineer before being headhunted by Huwood Ltd in Tyne and Wear as International Sales Manager and headhunted again by PTT, (a Charter Consolidated Co) in Nottinghamshire, as Export and Marketing Director.

Gerald joined Eminox Ltd in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire where he enjoyed significant success developing European and far east markets for diesel and gas engine exhaust after-treatment products for truck, bus, non-road mobile and static equipment and rail.

The Swedish market led the crusade on lowering diesel exhaust emissions closely followed by the UK and other markets such as Germany, France, The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Finland and even Hong Kong took up the mantle.

The aftermarket business for exhaust after-treatment developed into volume OEM business direct with European engine and vehicle manufacturers and the Eminox business blossomed during Gerald’s decade long period at the helm of Sales & Marketing plus Commercial and Contracts.

During this period Gerald was yet again involved in procurement; setting up partnership and supplier agreements for key exhaust emission components and material such as catalysts, filters, interim mat and much more.

Eventually the move to Procurement Management on a full time basis was inevitable as the Eminox business far outgrew the then procurement team. Gerald developed and mentored a professional team and developed the practices and processes to take the company into a new era. This included accreditation for the quality management system ISO/TS 16949 and approval by the leading European original equipment manufacturers (OEM) all of whom take TS 16949 as starting point and put their own bells and whistles on. The procurement processes, team activities and delivered results at Eminox satisfied all the OEM audits and enabled the business to successfully bid for major OEM contracts.

The recession of 2008/2009 took its toll on the construction and automotive markets bringing both almost to their knees. Eminox did not escape but faired better than most due to its business diversity established by Gerald.

After leaving Eminox in late 2009, a period of intense project management followed involving major refurbishment of Carrick House, before establishing Carrick Procurement Limited in July 2010 to make available his procurement knowledge and expertise to businesses wishing to develop their procurement processes and practices by adopting Procurement Best Practice or to fulfil a temporary Interim Procurement Management role or undertake a specific Procurement Project.

Gerald’s greatest recreational indulgence is rugby union; sadly not playing but as a Leicester Tigers season ticket holder, together with wife Christine.
